This is a late post, but better late than never, right? Amy and Josh were married on May 31, 2009. There wedding was just gorgeous! It was held at Gordon Lee Mansion and we were sooo happy that it turned out to be a nice day. Our backup plan for rain was in a tent and it would have not been as nice as the front steps of the gorgeous, historical mansion. For more pictures go to www.michellemckibben.blogspot.com.

I have been a REALLY REALLY bad blogger these past few months. There have been a lot of changes and I just haven't been able to keep up with my blogging. I know, I'm a terrible person! Don't think I forgot about you all though...because I certainly didn't. I will be posting more now that I am starting to catch my breath. I will try to put some of my Costa Rica pictures up soon so that you all can see how my husband and I celebrated our 5 year anniversary! I am in love with Costa Rica. I miss it dearly. I am thinking that I need to find a bride who wants to get married there. :)

Early morning in Costa...

So, this morning we woke up REALLY early to a crazy-eyed bird making weird noises outside of our window. I was so hoping that it was a monkey or a tucan, but it wasn't...just a big 'ol nasty black bird being sooo loud!

Realizing that we just couldn't get back to sleep (we are still on EST, so it was actually 9:00 when we finally got up after not being able to take the bird anymore) and got in a pretty good workout before our $20.00 breakfast....ugh. I hate paying more than $2.00 for breakfast. What would Dave say, right? Thank goodness we are going to an all-inclusive resort or we would make ourselves miserable each time we had to pay for food. :)

We are getting ready to leave the Hilton Garden Inn and head for the Paradisus Resort. We are sooo excited! Not sure if we will have internet access at the resort, so if not then we will talk to you all when we get back.

P.S. I don't think I will be able to post any pictures since I am not working off of my laptop but the hotel's public computers. But I'll see what I can do.

P.P.S.S. Mom the frogs here are soooo cute! :) Just kidding...I haven't seen any yet. Granny....tell Hailey I will do my best to bring her back a monkey! :)

We're in Costa Rica!!

Well, we love it already. We made it in a little early and it was already dark here so we haven't got to really see Costa Rica yet but I'm sure it will be great. The airport is open air which was cool and it was raining when we arrived, so that was an experience in and of itself. :)

For tonight we are staying at the Hilton Garden Inn that is close to the airport to save some money. Tomorrow we will head on over to our resort, the Paradisus Playa Conchal. We are so excited for tomorrow! When we got to the hotel, the service was superb. Everyone here is so friendly and just waiting to help. However, when we went down to dinner we were going to sit outside and all of a sudden this HUGE RAT came running out in front of me screeching "EECH EECH!" (Okay, I may be exaggerating a little...it was more like a small, black mouse, but still...gross!) Now to redeem the hotel...it is not a hotel that you would think would have a mouse on the patio. It is a very nice hotel, in fact, I think it is the nicest Hilton Garden Inn's that I have ever stayed in.

Dinner was good and we are about ready to go to bed since it is almost 11:00 our time. We want to make sure that we have lots of energy to explore Costa Rica and our resort tomorrow.

We hope that you all have a great week and pray for us that there won't be much rain. We are here on the "rainy season" but have heard that it is no more than what Florida experiences with their afternoon showers. If anyone has to get ahold of us, call the resort which you can find their information online. Otherwise, we will see you all when we get back. Have a great week!

Bill's 60th Birthday Party

For the past year, I have been giving hints on one of my main projects that I have been working on. Well, the day has come to reveal the big surprise.....it was my grandfather's surprise 60th birthday party! The theme of the night was "Celebrating the Past 60 Years" and boy, did we go all out! On the invitations it told everyone to dress as one of the past decades that my grandfather was alive in 1940s - 2000s. I was so amazed to see how well everyone responded! There were great outfits and everyone looked so much their part! The picture above is of my sister...and as you can guess, she was dressing as the 1940s. The night was a HUGE success! My grandfather was very surprised and had about 120 guests all there in his honor. However, there was a twist in the night and we had one more trick up our sleeves. About a fourth of the way into the night, I asked my grandparents to join me on the dance floor. I gave them a gift, which ended up being empty. Once they figured out that there was nothing in the box, the doors to the facility opened and in came all of the grandchildren with leis. Yes, that is right....we were letting them know that we had given them a trip to Hawaii too! The trip came from everyone at the party. It was indicated on the invitations that we were giving a huge gift and everyone in the party was more then generous with their donations.

I just want to give a few thank you's to a few people in particular:

-Sandy Bland and all of her staff for making us a delicious meal and taking care of our catering needs.

Do It Yourself Flowers

In these tough economic times, we all need to look at how we can save money on our events. One of the things that I love about weddings is the flowers. They smell so good and look so pretty and I just can't help to be happy when I am around them. But why do we have to pay thousands of dollars for the flowers when we have two perfectly good hands to do them ourselves? Okay, I know that most of you are thinking...I don't know how to do bouquets and centerpieces and even more than that...I don't have the time! Well if you live in the Greater Dayton. Ohio area, you don't need to know everything about flowers to have great flower decorations that you made yourself. There is a company there called The Flower Man and they have the whole "Home Depot" mindset - You can do it, they can help. As far as being time restricted, you can make this a fun thing for your girls to do. You can have this actually be your Brides Luncheon day...reserve a table for your bridesmaids and yourself, bring in lunch and have each girl customize her own bouquet. I love the idea! Great Idea: Cigar Bar!

At the wedding that I was at last weekend, one of the things that the bride and groom did was a cigar and brandy bar. I loved that idea! Outside of the reception was a small lounge section covered by a cabana tent. In the tent was a Cigar Roller from CF Dominicana Cigar Catering. Everyone loved the idea of having their cigars rolled right there in front of them while they sipped brandy. If you want to give your reception that little extra touch, I would highly recommend that you consider hiring a cigar rolling company like CF Dominicana Cigar Catering.

Valentine's.....a day for love and romance. This past week I have been wondering what my husband was going to do for me for the big V-Day. He keeps telling me that "It is in the works." When asked exactly what that meant he said, "I'm still working on it." Not a very good answer. Why do guys wait till the last minute to plan everything? Being a planner, it absolutely drives me insane. So as I was becoming more frustrated that my husband (like most) wait till the last minute...I have decided to take things into my own hands. Why should the man always be responsible for sweeping us ladies off of their feet? I'm going to release the hubby from all of his V-day "responsibilities" this year and make my own plans.

I think that a sunset picnic dinner will be perfect for this Valentine's. With the 60 degree weather that is sweeping across the south, we might as well take advantage of it and be outside. If you are wanting to do a picnic basket dinner, make sure the following is not forgotten:

-The food of course!
-A bottle of wine, champagne or sparkling grape juice
-A wine opener
-Glasses, plates, and silverware
-A blanket to sit on
-Love poems to read to one another (okay that my be a little cheesy, but it's Valentine's..anything cheesy goes!)

For the Reception: William Hill Wine

If you are serving wine at your wedding, make sure that you have something descent. Even if you are not a wine snob, you can pretty much be assured that your guests will know if you are serving them something cheap. One of the best wines that I like for a good price is William Hill. This Napa Valley winery produces a perfect red wine that I just could drink all day long!

William Hill is about $17.00 per bottle and is worth every penny. It is not too cheap and certainly not the most expensive, but I think your guests will be satisfied with it's taste and aroma. If your reception facility will allow you to bring in your own wine, I would highly suggest that you consider this wine for your guests.

Sidenote- If your budget does not allow for a wine like William Hill, I would suggest that you start out with something a little nicer and as the night progresses, change to a cheaper wine. Most will not notice the change too much since they have been drinking already :)

Grocery Store Flowers Upgraded

Your supermarket stocks fresh-cut flowers that cost a fraction of what the florist charges, but the bouquets lack grace and style. If you take apart those banal bunches of blooms, however, and remember a few quick lessons, you'll be able to transform the most common supermarket flowers into charming centerpieces.

Divide and conquer. Carnations, chrysanthemums, Oriental lilies, roses, golden solidagos, and a few stems of greenery — is typical of those sold in supermarkets. It's a confused mishmash of colors, textures, and sizes.

Contrast colors.Red roses and red carnations seem more vibrant when accented with a few sprigs of bright yellow solidago.Lesson: Never mix more than two contrasting colors in the same vase.

Go monochromatic. All the bouquet's pink blooms — alstroemeria, carnations, lilies, and daisies — are pulled out, cut short, and rearranged in a cylindrical vase.Lesson: Assorted flowers of different sizes and shapes can be mixed when they're all in the same color family, such as reds and pinks, yellows and oranges, or reds and purples.

Contrast textures. Orange alstroemeria is paired with hypericum berries for a lush and bold autumnal bouquet. The marriage of smooth, round berries and spiky flowers proves that opposites attract.Lesson: When pairing two dissimilar flowers, choose varieties with distinctly different textures and shapes.

Cut and edit. Red roses are always available, and more often than not they're sold with unnecessary greenery and baby's breath. For a dramatic arrangement, cut the stems short and place the roses in a simple frosted cylinder vase. Let the stems rest against one another to create a perfect mound of red. Lesson: Don't be afraid to discard unwanted accents or chop down long stems.

Make it mass. Carnations are sold in almost every shade of the rainbow, and because they're inexpensive, you can buy two bunches for the cost of one of another flower. Cut the stems short and stuff a vase, leaving no space between the blooms. Lesson: Common flowers look more sophisticated in large quantities.

I know that I have been so bad about blogging lately. Honestly, my schedule has been so crazy that I feel that January has been such a whirlwind! But there are no excuses for my lack of blogging. I'm sorry!

I will just say that I love Weddings By A Groom-To-Be but I would not suggest that you read it if you are easily offended. Right On Band on Fox News!

Right On Band is a FANTASTIC band that I had the pleasure of working with this past spring. They played at a birthday party that I coordinated. They were so great before, during and after the party.

While I was catching up on some news this evening, I heard that Right On Band will be playing in Times Square for Fox News tomorrow night (New Years Eve!) Not only do they get that honor, but they will be playing for our president elect at the inauguration in just a few weeks!

If you are wanting to have a fun party, I would definitely consider booking this band. You will love them! But you better book now, they fill up quickly!

Seven Cheap Foods to Serve at your Party

If you are having either a Christmas party or a New Years Eve party, you'll want to serve food that your guests will love. But you don't have to break the bank while filling your friends bellies. Here are seven foods that Money Smart Life says that you should consider for your holiday party:

Chocolate Fondue: Melt some milk chocolate and add light cream and vanilla extract to keep the chocolate from getting lumpy. Then, pick four items as dippers. Serve the fondue in a cool dish, and you’ve got a great dessert that looks like a professional did it.

Mini Crab Cakes: Look for a recipe online to make these wonderful appetizers. The only pricey part of this dish is the crab meat, and the rest is chopped vegetables, mayonnaise and bread crumbs.

Chili: Most people love chili, and it’s easy and cheap to make. Use your favorite recipe, and serve it in punch-style, plastic cups. To give it some extra flare, provide all of the extras such as oyster crackers, sour cream, cheese, and croutons.

Baked Brie: Make a baked ball of brie in the oven with your choice of topping to bake it with. Almonds are always a good choice. Instead of serving it with crackers, use fresh slices of french bread.

Chocolate Covered Strawberries: If you don’t do chocolate fondue, then you can easily make chocolate covered strawberries for an elegant look and a crowd favorite. To keep this dish cheaper, look for strawberries in bulk at your local farmer’s market or produce stand.

Spinach and Artichoke Dip: All of these ingredients are cheap and the recipe is nothing more than throwing a bunch of ingredients together and baking it. It’s one of my favorite dips. Serve it with pumpernickel bread cubes and/or crackers.

Pigs In a Blanket: Okay, this one might not look to elegant when you serve it, but they are always one of the first items gone when we make them at parties. To dress this dish up a little bit, offer different dipping sauces like honey dijon dressing, honey mustard, ranch dressing, and nacho cheese.

Off to Florida

I am leaving for Florida tomorrow to go visit family. From Florida, my husband and I are flying directly to Ohio to visit my side of the family. Now that it is December, we all need to start decorating for Christmas (if you already have not). I know in my household, we don't do anything pertaining to Christmas until after Thanksgiving. It seems like holidays are just so rushed anymore, and when we start focusing on Christmas before Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving passes us without us even knowing it.

So, as I was looking for decor ideas, once again Better Homes and Gardens had some really cute examples on their website:

More Thanksgiving Decor

I just love this decoration with the white pumpkin and bright colors! It doesn't look to much like Thanksgiving, but who said that Thanksgiving had to only be oranges and browns!?? Do something a little different this year and have an eye-popping arrangement!

Not to say that the golds, browns, and oranges aren't beautiful. I also love the decoration above. It is very elegant and warm feeling. Last night I did a couple of centerpieces for my house and I combined both ideas to make lovely decorations. I went to the store and bought a pre-arranged bouquet of flowers. The flowers had all kinds of colors in them, orange, yellow, maroon, purple and pink. I split the bouquet up and created two small centerpieces. I'll try to take a picture of it this week and post it for you all.

I love how simple and easy this centerpiece is! This can be used for any event that is held during the Fall, especially for the holiday that is this week...Thanksgiving! You can buy these glass containers at any hobby store (I prefer Hobby Lobby) and then just fill it up with dried corn and a candle to match. So easy!

Winter Bouquets

If you are having a winter wedding, here are a few ideas from Martha Stewart that you can use for your bouquets.

The picture above is a festive bridal bouquet features white hybrid Nerine lilies interspersed with variegated Pittosporum, scented-geranium leaves, and a few sprigs of rosemary; it's tied with a velvet ribbon.

This bouquet is perfect for a winter wedding. Casablanca lilies, some a hand-span wide, are wired into a plump and ruffled ball of lilies and intermixed with 20 silver-mesh leaves, some of which drift onto the bouquet’s silvery ribbon.

Trevitt Hall

I have known about Trevitt Hall for awhile now, but it wasn't until two weekends ago that I actually saw it for the very first time. I was very impressed with how beautiful it was! When you hear the words 'banquet hall' it normally puts an empty building that can be rented out for events in mind. But not this place....it is so much more than just an empty building! It has beautiful greenery all around the building with fountains and artwork setting it off beautifully. Trevitt Hall is located in Dalton, GA only about 15 minutes south of Chattanooga, TN. Have a Hold 'em Party!

This week has already been super busy but I wanted to post a little something for you all to read. One of the parties that my husband and I like to host is a Texas Hold em party. We have them all the time and just love it! It is a great way to get your friends together without having to constantly entertain them...the poker is entertaining enough! Here is what you will need to throw a good Hold 'em party:

1. Guests - you can't play Texas Hold 'em unless you have people to play with! A good number to have is at least 8 people. If you have a lot of friends and want to invite more people, then you can always setup several tables

2. Several deck of cards - two deck of cards for each table should be your rule of thumb. You will not play with both decks at the same time, but can switch out each hand. The deck that is not being used at that time will be shuffled by another player. This allows for the game to go faster so you don't have to wait each hand for the cards to be shuffled.

3. Poker chips - make sure you have enough chips for each player. A good amount would be 50-100 chips per player.

4. Lots of snacks - finger foods are great for a poker party. Chicken fingers, chips, cookies, brownies, etc.

5. Rules - make sure that everyone is aware of the rules before you play.

Black and Yellow Wedding

I know it is Fall right now and this board is more Spring or Summer, but I was inspired yesterday...and that is exactly what this is..an Inspiration Board. I had a lunch meeting outside yesterday and there was a bumble bee that just loved me. It would not leave my side...and even though it was super annoying, I was able to really look at it and appreciate its bold colors. So as you Spring and Summer brides are planning your weddings right now, think about the bees (no, not the birds and the bees...that will come later!) and appreciate their colors and maybe add it to your wedding. They are bright, bold and beautiful!

I needed to laugh a little today so I pulled out today's paper to read the PunchLine section. I am so glad that I did because laughed out loud with a few of the jokes. Today the paper decided to put lines that Southerns would never say and then lines that Northerners would never say. Most of you know that I am originally from Ohio and then moved to Tennessee for college and now reside in North Georgia (right across the TN state line). Having lived now both in the North and the South, I can see that there is such truth in every statement that was in the paper. Here is what it said:

Fall is my favorite time of the year. I just love it! The thought of Friday night football games, cider and hot chocolate, pumpkin pie, and big cozy sweaters just makes me smile! Okay, I know this post has nothing to do with weddings or events, but I found this article on Real Simple and thought that we all need to read things like this every once in awhile. When someone leaves a pie plate or a casserole dish at your house, return it with something tasty inside.

Make a list of local shops, restaurants, hair salons, and other services for new neighbors.

When a guest brings a bottle of wine to a party you’re throwing, jot her name on the label. Down the road, when you finally pop the cork, dial up your friend to let her know you’re having a drink in her honor.

Overtip your breakfast waiter. He probably put forth just as much effort as someone on the evening shift would, but his take-home pay is probably lower.

Okay, it might be silly to be in love with dresses, but I can't help it! I recently found this wedding dress designer, Model Novias and my breath has been taken away by these gorgeous dresses! My first discovery of this designer was on the Wedding Chicks' blog (the picture that is on the left of the last group came from their blog) and from there I went on to do my own research. These dresses are so girly and sophisticated that anyone who slips into one will look absolutely stunning. I love them all but I have to say that the pink dress is one of my favorites. It is a light enough pink to make you look soft and lovely while still wowing the crowd (and your groom!). After seeing these dresses I wish so badly that I could be a bride of today. I got married four years ago, and while I still love the dress that I wore, I really would have loved to wear a gown like these shown above. Maybe I'll have to see if Model Novias would let me do a photoshoot for them??!

Green Favors

In a "Going Green World" we all need to jump in and do our part to help the Earth stay beautiful. I thought these favors were great in doing just that. Why not give your guests something that also gives back to the Earth? Giving a favor like these will also last much longer than the cd of love songs that will end up breaking, or even worse..sitting in the case and never being opened.

Take a look around on Plant A Memory's website and figure out what you would like to give your guests. As I am writing this I am remembering an episode of Seinfeld where George has to give gifts to his co-workers for Christmas. Well George, being the crazy man that he is, decides to create a fake charity and give people cards that read "A contribution of X amount was donated in your name to the People Fund." Well, if you have ever seen the episode you know that in the end, it does not work out as great as George had hoped for :)

I came across this Save the Date and just fell in love with it! Have the Save the Dates hand-drawn! What a unique, hip idea to send out to all of your guests. If you know anyone who is handy with a pencil, give them a favorite picture of you and your groom for the artist to draw. You can then scan it into your computer and add that rich, bold color that you are looking for. This Save the Date card is definitely eye-popping and fun to look at!

A Love Story...

I have had the pleasure of working with Jessica and Josh through Michelle McKibben Photography and just couldn't resist blogging about how they fell in love. It is such a neat story!

Jessica and Josh's fathers worked together and one day they were both talking about their children. After a while they decided that their kids needed to meet and go out on a blind date. Jessica's father went home and told her about Josh so she ripped a piece of paper out of her Winnie-the-Pooh notebook and wrote down her phone number. The next day Jessica's dad gave the number to Josh's dad and then he passed it along to his son when he got home from work. Well, Josh was just a little uneasy about going out on a blind date so he never called Jessica.

A few months later he was sitting in his class (he attended the local college) and as he was looking around the room something caught his eyes. It was a Winnie-the-Pooh notebook that looked exactly like the paper that his dad had given him with Jessica's phone number on it! As his eyes moved from the paper to the owner, he was mesmerized! Jessica was BEAUTIFUL! (At this point he didn't know that she was a model!) Being too nervous he didn't say anything to her that day. He had to work up the courage to tell her that HE was the guy that her dad tried to hook her up with!

After that they were inseparable and are actually getting married this Saturday!

I guess it is correct when they say "Father Knows Best!"

My husband and I love to travel and ALWAYS use luggage tags so we make sure that the bag we are grabbing off of the belt is ours and not Joe Blows. A few weeks ago I posted about how Allure is doing a surprise event in the Spring! Well the first hint was Grease, and now the second hint is MJ! Oh I know you all are just dying to find out what in the world this event could be! The same event involving both MJ and Grease!??? I am just dying to tell you all but like I said, the person that this event is for doesn't know that it is being given for them and we can't give them any chances to spoil the surprise!

No Wedding, But the Cake Isn't Wasted

At church yesterday, the pastor told us of a story that I will always remember. Of course when anything that has to do with a wedding is said, my attention is grabbed, just like a dog when you say the word "treat". I know, it's pathetic! Anyway, here is the story:

Kathleen Gooley was to have been married today. The wedding was called off, but the reception went on. Instead of friends and relatives, Ms. Gooley's guests were 150 people from homeless shelters, soup kitchens and drug rehabilitation centers in Norwalk, Stamford and Bridgeport.
Ms. Gooley, who works for a company that recruits doctors, was to have married a psychologist this morning, but she said he called off the wedding two months ago. The couple had already paid the Canongate, a catering hall, $5,800 for the reception, and the owners would refund only $1,350.
So instead of a reception, Ms. Gooley decided to have a party for the homeless at the Canongate. ''This is better than a wedding,'' she said today as her guests dined on hors d'oeuvres, garden salad, fruit cup, stuffed chicken breast, string beans almandine, baked potato and cake and ice cream. ''It's making 150 people happy. If it were a wedding, I would have been the only person who was happy.'' Soft drinks and coffee - but no alcoholic beverages - were also served.

Several businesses donated flowers and favors for the party and provided transportation for the guests, who came from places like the Norwalk Kiwanis Shelter and the Thomas Merton House in Bridgeport. Many wore jeans and T-shirts, baseball caps and sneakers and walked tentatively into the Cotillion Room at the Canongate. At each place setting was a handwritten note from Ms. Gooley's 11-year-old daughter that said: ''Hope you have a great day. Love, Tara.'' Pictures of teddy bears adorned the note.
The chandeliers, pink tablecloths, spacious dance floor and wedding menu were foreign to some guests. ''It's been a long time since I've been at something like this,'' said Johnny Rivers, a 47-year-old homeless man who said he lost his job because of problems with alcohol. ''It's been a real long time. I just didn't have the money to be doing something like this.''
Marvin Minkler, an advocate for the homeless who attended the party, said there are 800 to 1,200 homeless people in the metropolitan Stamford area. ''For some of these people, this will be the only hot meal they get all month,'' Mr. Minkler said. ''Some of these people live in abandoned cars or the woods. But this is theirs today. This is their party.''
The uneasiness that some guests experienced at the outset dissipated when the music - everything from rap to big band tunes - started. The men did not hesitate to ask Ms. Gooley to dance. Some women danced with babies in their arms.

While fingering an unlighted cigarette, a homeless man with three stitches above his right eye explained what the party meant to him. ''Even when you're homeless, you try and maintain some pride and dignity,'' said the man, who identified himself as Paul A. ''At something like this, you can. This woman did a wonderful thing. She made us feel like real people again.''

As I was searching the web today, I came across a website that I will definitely be checking on a regular basis. It is a blog named Weddings by a Groom-To-Be and it ids hilarious! This poor groom is experiencing what a lot of men go through during the engagement period...they feel that their lives have been overtaken by wedding talk. There once, perfect, content life with their girlfriend has become a mad-rush of cakes, flowers, reception venues and a fiance that can't make up her mind. Jumping for LOVE

Okay, some people think that this is absolutely crazy...but me..I think it is AWESOME! I have always wanted to go skydiving and my dad had promised me that on my 21st birthday we would do so, just me and him. Well that sounded like a great plan...until we realized that my 21st birthday was also my rehearsal dinner night. Yes, I got married the day after my bday. At the time it wasn't a big deal, I just wanted to marry my husband. Now...let's just say that I wish I would have separated the days a little bit. I like celebrating both days but not back to back.

Anyway........I have finally talked my husband into taking me skydiving. We were going to go this weekend until I backed into a brand new Mercedes (the 1st time I have ever hit anything..it would have to be an expensive car!) and now have to pay a $250.00 deductible. But, he has promised me that it will be soon. YAY! I'm SUPER excited!!!

To have a dessert reception make sure that you indicate on the invitations that it is a dessert reception so that your guests do not come expecting a full meal. A dessert reception normally works out best if the ceremony is around 7:30 with the reception beginning between 8:15-8:30. Have fun with the looks of the desserts...make sure that it is just as pleasing to the eyes as it is to the mouth and stomach.

A new blog is up and let me just say that it is GREAT! Yes, I may be a little biased because I am a part of it...but even if I wasn't, I would still love it. The blog is called Destination Weddings and it caters to every bride that is planning or just thinking about planning her wedding in a different location than what she currently resides. A lot of people think that Destination Weddings are only tropical locations, but that is not true. There are a lot of other destinations that are great for weddings, like Savannah, the Keys, and yes..the most important place..VEGAS!

The blog was created by Michelle McKibben Photography and Pictures by Tracy, two destination photographers. Their work is FABULOUS and they are the perfect duo to start this blog. It is such an honor that they asked Allure to be the exclusive event coordinating company to blog on the site with them. Hopefully we will give insight to what it takes to plan a destination wedding!

Michelle McKibben Photography sent me this picture that she had captured at the Ledford Party in May. My assistant coordinator, Chrystal (on the left), was waiting outside for the guest of honor to arrive. When I came up to her to ask about something, I heard "Girls!" and then a snap! I must say....we don't look too caught off guard..haha!

The party was fabulous and I couldn't have done it without my assistant coordinators! I hate it, but I don't have a picture of my other assistant coordinator that was with us that night, Brianna. Both girls were a HUGE help. And I also have to say a HUGE THANK YOU to Soirees of Chattanooga for the event. Because Soirees is so fabulous (yes, she is a competitor..but I can't help it, I just love those girls!) they were booked solid and gave me this event. Thanks Taylor and Morgan!

This weekend I was going over invitations with two of my clients, Anna & Scott. Since it was on my mind, I thought I would post information on Do It Yourself Invitations. It really is fairly simple..you just have to be creative! Yes, it can be a little time consuming, but think about how much money you are going to save! Like I had suggested to Anna, this is something that your bridesmaids can help you with. Have a fun "invitation party" with your bridesmaids and anyone else who wants to help. Have a bottle of champagne some desserts and make it a party! Being on a budget doesn't mean that you have to stress about things..it just means that you have to be a little more creative..and it gives you a chance to hang out with your closest BFFs while you are still a bachelorette.

Any stationary store should have the items that it takes to do your own invitations. Check Hobby Lobby or any other craft store that is in your area to see what kind of papers that they have. While you are in "saving money mode" go ahead and make your programs to match your invitations! I wouldn't make them exactly alike, but play off of one another to make it all tie in.

Outragous Dinner Party!!

I came across a website today that I had never seen before. Dinner in the Sky is the new rage and is quickly making itself well-known all across the world. What a way to impress clients, family or friends! I would love to be able to put on one of these dinners for a client...I am all about finding new ways to impress the socks off of your guests..and I think this would certainly do it. As long as your clients (or you!) are not afraid of heights! The upscale dinner can enjoyed for 8 hours allowing 22 people to go up at a time. So, if you have a lot of guests, you can have time slots and they can go up in groups every 2 hours. If you want exclusive VIP access you and your 22 guests can enjoy the dinner and the views for the full 8 hours (that is a long time to be up there though!)

Dinner in the Sky has an enclosed box in the middle of the tables that fits your personal chef, waiter/waitress and an entertainer. If additional entertainment is needed a platform can be lifted to the same height as you and your guests that enjoy, such as a live band. Or..if this is a corporate event and you are trying to really wow your guests while selling a product, have that product right at eye level for them...such as a car! These guys at Dinner in the Sky can do just about anything!

Color Board - Red, White & Gray

This week has been full of non-stop, on the go work, which we love..but it does take a toll on your body at times. But as all of the business was going on, I could not get Ohio out of my mind this week. I grew up in Ohio and moved to the south to go to college. After college, I stayed in the Chattanooga area and started the first Allure office here. Although I love Chattanooga, I was a little homesick this week. I'm not really sure why, but I just was.

So me being homesick is the inspiration for this week's color board. Although I did not go to Ohio State, I am a fan and used Ohio State colors on the board. It comes across very chic when used in the right way. Red has always been used as an accent color for many weddings...dating back to even the 70's (but the outfits sure have changed!) Red is the color of love and love is what weddings are all about (or at least should be!)

Allure {Ohio} Wedding

A few months ago I mentioned to you all that I was opening up another Allure office, this time in Ohio. Toya Webb is the head coordinator in the Ohio office, and she has just accomplished her first wedding while working for Allure! Nowadays, events are becoming almost a competition. Each host/hostess wants to "up" their event and make it more chic and unique than anyone that they know has done before. A way to do this is to decorate and pay attention to the small details. Lighting is huge when you are trying to create a special ambiance for your event. You can either hire a lighting specialist or if you are watching your budget, use lanterns and lots of colored votives to create the feel that you are going for. My husband and I just got back from our vacation in Savannah, GA. We have lived in the south for almost 7 years and this is the first time that we have made it over to Georgia's coast. Savannah has a beautiful downtown with so much history! While we were there, we were able to experience a beach wedding...and it was gorgeous! Savannah has actually become a top destination for weddings...and I can see why! With the sand, ocean and beautiful sunset, it is an almost guaranteed perfect place...if the rain holds out! For those of you who know my me, you know that my family adopted a beautiful little girl from China a few years ago. So this is why the story below makes me so sad...we can relate to how the Chapman family is feeling right now:

At approximately 5pm on the afternoon of Wednesday May 21st, Maria Sue Chapman, 5 years old and the youngest daughter to Steven and Mary Beth Chapman was struck in the driveway of the Chapman home in Franklin, TN. Maria was rushed to Vanderbilt Childrens Hospital in Nashville, transported by LifeFlight, but died of her injuries there. Maria is one of the close knit family’s six children and one of their three adopted daughters.

More than five years ago, Chapman and his wife MaryBeth founded The Shaohannah’s Hope Ministry after bringing their first adopted daughter, Shaohannah, home from China. The ministry’s goal is to help families reduce the financial barrier of adoption, and has provided grants to over 1700 families wishing to adopt orphans from around the world. I had the opportunity to plan and coordinate the most fabulous event this past weekend. It was a 40th birthday celebration / Cadillac event for Don Ledford. With only a month to throw it all together, I will say that it turned out absolutely fantastic! Okay Bridesmaids, it's your turn to do something for your friends big day. Before you even discuss where you want to have the ceremony and reception, you need to figure out what kind of budget you're working with. Whether you have $50,000 to spend or $5,000, a budget is necessary so that you don't spend too much on one area and run out of funds. See the first steps to becoming a budget-building-bride-to-be when you read more.

The biggest question to ask is who's contributing to the wedding costs and who's responsible for each category. If you and your fiancé will be paying for the entire event out of your own pockets then the two of you need to figure out two things — the maximum amount that you can afford, and how much you actually want to spend. Think you can't avoid going into debt from wedding expenses? Set up a separate wedding savings account in which you and your fiancé deposit a certain amount each month. And if you're set on having a bigger budget than is reasonable within your ideal engagement time-frame, be flexible! You can always push the wedding out another six months to give yourself more time to save.

If you're planning on asking your families for help in financing the wedding, talk to each family about who will pay for what and how much they'll contribute. At that point you'll have a total budget to work with, and you can start digging into the details of your big day.

The same budget for a 350 person wedding may look wildly different from the way that budget is broken down for a 120 person wedding. For example, you can't determine how much of your budget will be used to feed your guests until you have an estimate for how many will be eating. Nothing needs to be set in stone at this very early stage of your wedding, but you'll avoid wasting time (like looking at venues that would fit half your guests) by getting a good idea of what to expect.

Today it is all about capturing the moment. What better way to remember your big day by then to look back on fabulous photos that show everything that you loved about your day..the details and the emotions.

Spring Centerpieces

Do you ever have a time where you just want to kick yourself for not doing something? I had an upscale baby shower that I planned about a year ago and we had the most adorable centerpieces! The only problem is that I didn't take any pictures of them! (Hence the part about wanting to kick myself!)

I tried to find if anyone else has ever done the same centerpieces, and although I did not find the exact same thing, what you see above is close to it. The expecting mother was having a baby boy so the centerpieces were with rain boots (they were blue and red) with flowers coming out of the tops of the boots. Next to the boots was a dump truck that was pouring out dirt with a few flowers placed in the dirt. In my search for these centerpieces, I did see another centerpiece that was cute, the miniature wheelbarrow with the flowers. All of these items definitely make me think of Spring! These centerpieces would be perfect for baby showers, women's luncheons or a birthday party!

Allure loves lilacs!

I was driving to Valdosta the other day to run an event (Georgia On My Mind Day). On my way down, near Macon, there were miles and miles of highway lined with the sweet smelling lilac trees. They were beautiful and made me so happy! Lilacs are a little tricky because they are only in bloom for a few weeks a year. But, if your event is during that time period, I would highly suggest that you make lilacs a part of your decor. For one, they have a special aroma that all most anyone can place. Secondly, they are so pretty and make any woman just fall in love with them!

As you can see in this picture, the lilac is just about the only thing being used as the centerpiece, besides a little bit of greenery. But it doesn't need anything else, it alone looks beautiful! Thanks to http://www.thetenderthickent.com/ for this lovely picture!

Purple and Green

I am currently redoing my flower garden and have purchased a huge lilac bush that will be just so beautiful (that is if I don't kill it first!..I'm not that great when it comes to planting..) Because lilacs have been on my mind a lot lately, it was my inspiration for this Purple and Green board. With it being Spring, purple and green are not hard to find. Just about everything comes in at least one of these shades. Using both shades together can be beautiful, if used right. If just thrown together, it can become messy and the colors can work against each other. So be careful when mixinig such bold, strong colors.

Whether or not these people were "fooling" the guests at the wedding or not, we will never know. I don't know if you can read the bottom of the groom's shoes in the last picture, but it says "HELP!". Haha...what a jokester! I bet the guests started dying laughing when he bent down to pray.

SPRING for Yellow and Pink!

When I think of the colors yellow and pink, my mind automatically thinks of Strawberry Lemonade! YUM! Although Strawberry Lemonade is delicious, it is not the only thing that is shaded with these two colors. Yellow is the color of hope and happiness while pink is universally known as the 'color of love'. Both of these meanings are dead on with what a wedding is supposed to be about--being in love and having hope for the future. So why not mix the most joyous day of your life with colors that subconsciously make people feel the same way that you do? I just can't help but smile with either one of these colors.

There are other upsides to having such fab colors shower your special day. For one, they are pretty accessible colors, especially this time of year. Also, almost every girl loves both of these colors. For your BFF's to spend the amount of money that they do on a dress, at least let it be a color that they like and look good in.

As an event planner, I love to have any reason to plan a party. And adding wonderful things like Easter eggs, the Easter Bunny and a nice big ham dinner just makes it even more special. We need to enjoy all of those things but our main focus should be on something much greater. We would not even have this fabulous holiday if it were not for our Savior, Jesus Christ. So in the mix of the egg hunts and spending time with your loved ones, remember to stop and say a little "thank you" prayer to the One who wants us to have a fabulous party with Him for eternity.

With all of that said, I hope that you enjoyed this holiday weekend and shared many great laughs and memories with your family and friends. Now, with all of that said, let's focus on the holiday that celebrates the color green, St. Patty's Day! Although it is not until Monday, we can be thinking of creative ways to decorate, dress and celebrate. I absolutely love flowers and use any excuse to shower my home in them. I will definitely be adding flowers like you see above to my table, mantel and probably front porch. I tend not to lean to the plastic decorations, but yet more elegant flower and table linens that just touch on the holiday. I like the simplicity of decorations and believe in the saying that "less is more".

I am so excited about this contest and for the person who wins this fabulous necklace. It might seem easy to write about your loved one, but when you start to think about what it is about that other person that just makes your heart pitter-patter, the words (at least to me) just seem to get so jumbled. It's not that the words aren't there, it is that there are too many words to sum up one emotion.

When my husband and I first said "I love you" I knew right then and there that we had to truly hold onto what the words mean and not get into the habit of saying the phrase. Now that the big "L" word barrier was broken, I made my-then-boyfriend promise me that he would only say it when he was truly and honestly feeling it at that moment. And I did the same. It meant so much more to both of us when we would say it because we knew that we were feeling the emotion, not the habit. Now that almost 6 years has gone by since that moment, we have been bitten by the habit. I guess we need to all rethink back to the time that the phrase was first said to you by your loved one. What did you feel? Has the feeling of the phrase changed now that time has gone by?

Let's all think about why we REALLY LOVE someone and put those words down on paper. If you are feeling jumbled, that is okay. Write all of the words that comes into your head and then make sense of it. Afterwards, make sure whoever you wrote those kind words for is able to read what you wrote. No matter if you win the contest or not, it will draw you closer to the person you love, and there is no prize greater than that.
